What is a School Action Sports Club?
An Action Sports Club is a school-based group where students who are interested in action sports (like wakeboarding, snowboarding, etc.) can connect, share their passion, and even organize trips or activities related to those sports.
It’s like a fan club + meetup group + community for action sports—run by students, supported by the school.
What Does an Action Sports Club Do?
Here’s what a typical club might do:
- Meet weekly or monthly to participate in an action sport.
- Watch action sports videos or pro competitions together
- Plan trips to places like West Rock Wake Park , meet up at your local skateshop, go skiing/snowboarding in the winter, go for a ride at Atwood, climb at your local wall/boulder outside, etc 😎
- Share gear, skills, training tips, or learn tricks together
- Host fundraisers or awareness events at school
- Promote safety and sportsmanship in action sports
It doesn’t have to be complicated—you just need a group of people who are into this stuff.
What Does It Mean to “Start One”?
If you want to start an Action Sports Club:
- Talk to your school administration (usually the office or student activities coordinator)
- Get a few students interested.
- Ask a teacher to “sponsor” the club (explained below)
- Set up a first meeting
- Follow any school rules for clubs (they might have forms or a simple process)
Then you’re official! And you can claim that free season pass from West Rock 🎉
What if my members want to ride at West Rock all season long? Do they get a free season pass?
Unfortunately they don’t get a free season pass BUT we will work with each club to determine a proper discount for each member and do very cheap Learn to Ride days!
What Does It Mean to Get a Teacher to “Sponsor” the Club?
A teacher sponsor (or “faculty advisor”) is a teacher who agrees to:
- Be the adult in charge for the school
- Attend the meetings (or at least be on call)
- Help with paperwork or trip approvals
- Make sure the club follows school rules
They’re not doing the work for you—they’re just making it official in the eyes of the school and helping when needed.
✅ Tip: Choose a teacher who likes sports or is supportive of student activities. Ask them nicely—most will say yes if it’s low stress.
